Majestic Princess - March April 2019 - Post 6

This is a massive port. It and the city are unrecognisable to me from when I used to call here in 1980/81 as Third Mate aboard the container / RoRo ship Australian Exporter.

This port used to have a large shipbreaking industry but today provides ship repairs as well as its massive cargo throughput.

Golden Princess - January 2019 - Post 1

On 29th. January I rejoined Golden Princess for a fourteen day cruise to the South Pacific and back. Once more, I was very fortunate with the weather, smooth seas and sunny days throughout. The food and service on board were excellent, as always. The only disappointment to me is that increasingly over the last couple of years, I've seen that the dress standards around the ships are plummeting. Perhaps it's because I'm old-fashioned but I hate seeing men wearing shorts, singlets, baseball caps or other non-uniform headgear and no shoes and socks in all the lounges in the evenings. This sloppy dress in all the bars and lounges really detracts from the ambience of the ship and, to me, is ignorant and disrespectful to the staff who are always well presented. I think the company should enforce a reasonable dress standard (smart casual) in at least one of the lounges after 6pm. However, a great cruise once more.

Golden Princess - January 2019 - Post 2

In Noumea, these two Italian Deck Cadets assisted me prepare for a magnetic compass adjustment later in the cruise.

It’s indeed a small world. This young bloke from UK, on board for a familiarisation program, has just joined Princess as a Third Officer. He was sailing his final voyage as a Deck Cadet aboard the container ship CMA CGM Eiffel when I was doing a compass adjustment on that ship, sailing from Melbourne, eighteen months ago.
I thoroughly enjoyed this magnificent private lunch today, hosted by the Maitre d’ and with the Executive Chef and senior hotel officers.
