Oosterdam (February 2013) - Post 1

On January 26th. I boarded Holland America Line's Oosterdam in Sydney for an 11 night South Pacific cruise (Sydney / Sydney) followed by a 14 night New Zealand cruise (Sydney / Auckland). I flew home to Melbourne from Auckland on February 20th.

Sydney, Australia - 26th. January.

My standard balcony cabin.

One of the things I like about Holland America ships is that most cabins have a bath in the bathroom.
Pacific Pearl raising her anchor to return to the berth we just sailed from. She spent Australia Day at anchor in Sydney harbour.
Early morning on deck.
The ship's twin funnels.

Luganville, Vanuatu - 30th. January.

Vila, Vanuatu - 31st. January.

The long serving Vila pilot vessel, now retired.

Mystery Island, Vanuatu - 31st. January.

Some of the cheerful and obliging Fillipino bar staff.

Isle of Pines, New Caledonia - 1st. February.

Noumea, New Caledonia - 2nd. February.

Amedee Island at the entrance to Noumea.

Danny and Steve, friends of mine from last year's QM2 cruise.

Chris, one of the ship's entertainers.

Sydney, Australia - 6th. February.

Morning arrival in Sydney harbour. Arrival had to be delayed until low tide so the ship could sail under the harbour bridge.

Celebrity Solstice at Circular Quay.

Old cargo wharves at Walsh Bay, now converted to apartments and shops.
Approaching the temporary cruise terminal at Barangaroo. A casino is being built here.

  3. I enjoyed looking at your pics, very interesting, thanks. I am embarking on Oosterdam for a Pacific crossing in April, Sydney to Vancouver, hence interested in HAL blogs. Interested in shipping in general, spent 15 years at sea in 60's and 70's.... RN, Fred Olsen Lines, Chandris lines.
